I have been Full Professor of Philosophy at University College Dublin, holding the National University of Ireland Statutory Chair of Philosophy (Metaphysics & Logic) since 1989 until retirement in 2018.

I served as Director of the International Centre for Newman Studies, UCD, established by University College Dublin for the Study of the Life, Times and Work of John Henry Newman, 1801-1890, First Rector of UCD. I am an elected Member of the UCD Governing Authority (2014-2018).

I am an elected Member of the Institut International de Philosophie (elected 2016) I am an elected Member of the Royal Irish Academy (elected 2003)I am currently elected President of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies/ Fédération Internationale des Sociétés de Philosophie (FISP), (2013 to 2018), — responsible for the organisation of the XXIV World Congress of Philosophy, Beijing, 13-20 August 2018 (www.fisp.org)– responsible for the administration of the annual International Philosophy of Olympiad essay competition for second level students internationally.– responsible for liaison with the International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH).– responsible for advocating regarding issues affecting philosophy and the FISP member organisations internationally. I have held regular invited Visiting Professorships at universities in the USA, including Yale University (1986-1987), Connecticut College (1992-1993), Rice University (2003-4 and 2006-7), Northwestern University (Spring 2007) and Boston College (Spring 2015). I have also been a Visiting Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Summer 2010); Sir Walter Murdoch Professor in the School of Humanities Murdoch University, Perth, Australia (2012-2015); and Distinguished Visiting Professor, Wuhan University (December 2015 and 2016).Honours and Awards

In September 2016, Prof. Moran was elected a Member of the Institut International de Philosophie. In May 2016, Prof. Moran was a Member of the Scientific Committee and Board of International Advisors for the World Congress: Aristotle 2400 Years, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (23-28 May 2016).On 26 October 2015, in Athens, Prof. Moran was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy Degree by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens for his “contribution to the promotion of philosophy in general and with regard to his field of research in particular”. Prof. Moran was Distinguished Visiting Professor at LuoJia Forum, Wuhan University, China (2015, 2016). Prof. Moran was the Hans-Georg Gadamer Visiting Professor in Philosophy at Boston College (2015). Prof. Moran was awarded the Doctor of Literature (DLitt) degree on the basis of published work by the National University of Ireland. (September 2013).

In November 2012 Prof. Moran was awarded the Royal Irish Academy Gold Medal in the Humanities. Prof. Moran was Sir Walter Murdoch Adjunct Professor in the School of Arts at Murdoch University, Perth, Australia (2012-2015). Professor Moran served as Member-at-Large of the Executive Committee of the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy, elected for a three-year term (2013-2016).
