Workshop on Proclus’ Commentary on Euclid’s Elements

On Saturday 16 February 2013 the Trinity Plato Centre hosted a one-day workshop on Proclus’ Commentary on Euclid’s Elements. The workshop focused on three main topics

  • Proclus on the role of imagination in geometry, and a comparison with Kant (introduced and chaired by Stefan Storrie, Trinity College Dublin).
  • Proclus on the epistemic status of first principles of Geometry (introduced and chaired by Philipp Steinkrüger, Leuven).
  • Proclus on Plato’s critical estimation of the mathematicians — did Plato discredit mathematics? (introduced and chaired by Vasilis Politis, Trinity College Dublin).
